David Cairns, Eamonn McEvoy & Co Solicitors - Chairman

David is the Chairman of the Northern Ireland Young Solicitors' Association having previously held the position of CPD Co-Ordinator (2016).  He first joined the Committee in 2015.

 

David works for Eamonn McEvoy & Co Solicitors, a general practice firm based in Lurgan, County Armagh.  He trained with the firm and qualified as a Solicitor in 2011. His main areas of work are Criminal Law and Family Law.

 

In 2015, David qualified as a Solicitor Advocate having successfully completed the Law Society of Northern Ireland Advanced Advocacy Course.

Emma O'Donnell, Carson McDowell - Vice Chair

Emma studied Law with French at Queens University Belfast. During this time she spent one year on Erasmus studying French Law at Université Jean Moulin Lyon III in Lyon.  Having graduated from QUB in 2010, Emma then attended the Institute of Professional Legal Studies. 

Emma is also a member of the Northern Ireland In House Lawyers Group. 

Outside of her working life, Emma is a keen runner who partakes in various running events and half marathons and is a member of the Dub Runners of Belfast.

Rachael Gamble, Cleaver Fulton Rankin – Treasurer

  

Rachael studied Law with Politics  at Queen’s University in Belfast graduating in June 2011, before obtaining her Certificate of Professional Legal Studies in June 2015.

 

Rachael gained pre- qualification experience working as a Legal Executive in a local law firm before going on to complete her training contract at Cleaver Fulton Rankin. Upon qualification, Rachael joined the Dispute Resolution department as a Solicitor where in addition to general commercial litigation, her main focuses are on contentious trusts and probate litigation, commercial property litigation, contentious banking disputes, debt recovery, professional negligence and family matters.

 

Rachael has been involved with the NIYSA since being elected as the Institute of Professional Legal Studies representative in 2014.

 

Ciara Ferguson, JMK Solicitors - Secretary

Prior to joining JMK, Ciara worked in general practice in Belfast. Ciara joined the firm in August 2015 and specialises in Road Traffic Accident Claims. She applies a strong ethos towards client care and strives to ensure that each of her client’s are supported throughout the legal process in order that their expectations are met and they are happy with the outcome. Ciara held the position of CPD Co-Ordinator for 2014/2015.

Chris Kinney, McCallion Keown - Membership Secretary

Chris studied Law at QUB and graduated in 2014, before obtaining his Postgraduate Diploma in Professional Legal Studies in 2016. Chris completed his training contract with McCallion Keown Solicitors and has continued his employment there, working principally within the family law department. Chris also regularly deals with all aspects of criminal law and procedure, regularly attending police stations and representing clients at court.

 

Chris has been a committee member on the NIYSA since he was appointed as the IPLS representative for his year.

 

In his spare time Chris is a keen swimmer and also enjoys fitting in a round of golf when he can.

Lauren Jones, HHD Solicitors - CPD Co-ordinator

Lauren has been a committee member of the Northern Ireland Young Solicitors’ Association since 2016 and is the CPD Co-Coordinator for 2017.

Lauren qualified as an Assistant Solicitor in September 2015. Lauren is a Solicitor in Higgins Hollywood Deazley Solicitors, a general practice firm based in North Belfast. She specialises in plaintiff litigation claims including medical and dental negligence actions, road traffic accidents, trips, slips, falls and accidents at work in both the High Court and County Court together with employment law matters and cases before the Industrial Tribunal and Fair Employment Tribunal.

Lauren also specialises in residential conveyancing, the administration of estates, will drafting, powers of attorney and applications to the Office of Care and Protection.

Stephanie Johnston, Carson McDowell - Committee Member

Stephanie graduated from University of Ulster, Jordanstown in 2012 and qualified as a solicitor in 2015. Stephanie joined Carson McDowell in June 2016 and her post qualification experience has been exclusively in Private Client matters.

Stephanie specialises in in a wide range of Private Client matters including succession planning, the administration of estates and trusts, as well as dealing with applications to the Office of Care and Protection and issues surrounding mental capacity

Francesca Glynn, Edwards & Company - Committee Member

Francesca is a new member of the Northern Ireland Young Solicitors' Association having joined the Committee in January 2017.  

 

Francesca is a Solicitor with Edwards & Co, a general practice firm based in Belfast’s Cathedral Quarter. She specalise in personal injury litigation which includes areas such as Medical Negligence, Road Traffic Accidents and Employer Liability with both a High Court and County Court practice.

 

Outside of her working life, Francesca is a horse owner and keen runner. She recently ran the London Half Marathon with her work colleagues in aid of Bowel Cancer UK.

Owen Williamson, Shean Dickson Merrick – Committee Member

Owen graduated with a degree in Law with Politics from Queen’s University Belfast in 2014 before joining Shean Dickson Merrick.  Owen then attended the Institute of Professional Legal Studies where he obtained his Postgraduate Diploma in Professional Legal Studies in 2016.

 

Since qualification, Owen has worked closely with the partners in the firm in the areas of litigation (including commercial litigation), corporate, and debt recovery.

 

Owen was elected to the NIYSA Committee in 2017 and is a member of the Pro Bono Choir.

Emma McCaul, Simmons Meglaughlin & Orr - IPLS representative

Emma graduated from University of Ulster, Jordanstown in 2012 and will qualify as a Solicitor in 2017. She joined the Committee as the IPLS Class Representative in 2016.

 

Emma works for Simmons, Meglaughlin & Orr LLP, a General Practice Firm in Dungannon, County Tyrone.  Emma specialises in a wide range of Private Client matters as well dealing with Residential and Commercial Conveyancing.

Julie-Ann McCaffrey, Cleaver Fulton Rankin - Immediate Past Chair

Julie-Ann McCaffrey is the Immediate Past Chair of the Northern Ireland Young Solicitors’ Association having previously held the position of Chair (2016), Vice-Chair (2015) and Secretary (2014). Julie-Ann first joined the committee as the Institute of Professional Legal Studies Trainee representative in 2011.


Julie-Ann works in the Dispute Resolution department at Cleaver Fulton Rankin having studied at University College Dublin where she graduated with a Joint Honours degree in Business and Law and also has a Certificate in Human Rights and Criminal Justice from Queen’s University Belfast. Aside from general Commercial Litigation, Julie-Ann’s main areas of work in Cleaver Fulton Rankin include Construction Law and Public Procurement.
